Why I Think Most People Are Looking at TikTok the Wrong Way

The more I watch successful creators, the less I think it’s about luck and the more I think it’s about systems.

Why I Think Most People Are Looking at TikTok the Wrong Way

Maybe TikTok Isn't as Random as People Think

One thing I've noticed since starting my TikTok journey is how often people talk about success as if it's completely down to luck.

The common advice seems to be that you need endless new ideas, constant creativity and a viral moment that somehow changes everything overnight.

The more I watch what's actually happening on the platform, the less I believe that's true.

You've got ordinary people filming videos in their living rooms and generating results that most people would consider life-changing. When you look closely, that doesn't feel like luck. It feels like a pattern.

Successful Creators Aren't Always Chasing New Ideas

What stands out to me is that many of the creators doing well aren't constantly reinventing themselves.

They find a product that works. They find a hook that works. Then instead of moving on to the next shiny idea, they stay with it.

They make small improvements.

  • A better opening hook
  • A stronger video structure
  • A different angle
  • A slightly clearer explanation
  • Better footage

On the surface the videos might look very similar, but those small changes add up over time.

That's where I think a lot of the results actually come from.

Thinking in Systems Changes Everything

The biggest shift for me has been looking at TikTok as a system rather than a mystery.

If success is purely luck, there's not much you can do apart from hope.

If it's a system, that's different.

A system can be observed. It can be tested. It can be improved.

You can start identifying patterns, understanding what works and making deliberate changes based on what you're learning.

That feels a lot more practical than chasing viral moments.

Why I'm Sharing the Journey

That's one of the reasons I decided to start documenting what I'm doing.

Rather than pretending I've got all the answers, I'd rather think out loud, test ideas, break things down properly and share what I'm learning along the way.

Some experiments will work. Some won't. That's part of the process.

But if TikTok really is more about systems than luck, then every test teaches something useful.

What I'm Focusing on Next

Right now I'm focused on understanding those patterns better.

What makes a hook work? Why do some videos gain traction while others don't? Which changes actually make a difference?

I'm going to keep testing, keep learning and keep sharing the results as I go.
