If you’re a TikTok Shop affiliate, there’s a useful clue hiding inside the seller side of GMV Max.
TikTok is actively encouraging sellers to keep giving the system new videos to test. Some sellers can even enable accelerated testing, which prioritises recently uploaded or newly authorised creatives.
That changes how I think affiliates should approach content.
It doesn’t mean deleting old videos or constantly reinventing everything. It means creating a steady supply of fresh creatives that sellers and GMV Max can test against each other.
Here are the five things I think affiliates should be doing.
1. Keep Making Fresh Videos
GMV Max needs creatives to test.
That means an affiliate who consistently creates new videos may be more useful to a seller than someone who posts one video and disappears.
You don’t necessarily need a completely new concept every time.
A new hook, opening scene, character, location or presentation style can give TikTok another creative to test.
The goal is simple:
Keep supplying fresh opportunities for a product to find buyers.
2. Make Variations of Products That Already Convert
If one of your videos has generated orders, don’t automatically move on because the views weren’t huge.
That video has already told you something important.
People will buy that product from your content.
Instead of abandoning it, make another version.
Try a different hook.
Change the problem you focus on.
Demonstrate another feature.
Approach the same product from a different buyer’s perspective.
You’re not trying to copy the winning video. You’re using what you learned from it to create more creatives for TikTok to test.
3. Keep Your Old Converting Videos Live
Fresh content matters, but that doesn’t mean old content suddenly becomes worthless.
TikTok Shop videos can continue generating orders long after they were uploaded.
I’ve seen videos with relatively modest view counts continue converting weeks later.
So don’t treat this as a choice between old and new.
You want both:
A growing library of older converting videos and a steady stream of fresh creatives.
Your back catalogue can keep working while your newer videos give GMV Max something else to test.
4. Stop Judging Everything by Views
This may be the hardest habit for affiliates to break.
A video with thousands of views can make almost nothing.
Another video with much lower reach can generate several high-value orders.
If you’re an affiliate, the most important question isn’t:
“How many views did this get?”
It’s:
“Did this creative make people buy?”
Views can tell you something about distribution.
Orders tell you something about commercial intent.
Those are not always the same thing.
5. Become the Affiliate Who Gives Sellers Creative Options
This might be the biggest opportunity.
Sellers using GMV Max need creatives.
The system needs different videos to compare, test and potentially put advertising spend behind.
That means affiliates who can repeatedly create good variations become increasingly valuable.
Instead of trying to make one perfect viral video, think about building a collection of strong creatives around products that have already shown potential.
- Different hooks
- Different audiences
- Different problems
- Different benefits
- Different styles
Let TikTok test them.
Your job as an affiliate is increasingly becoming less about finding one viral winner and more about giving the system enough good creative choices to discover what converts.
And that may be one of the biggest changes GMV Max brings to TikTok Shop affiliate marketing:
The affiliate who can consistently produce useful, varied, conversion-focused creative may become far more valuable than the affiliate who simply gets the occasional huge view count.
